Best setup for band rig/DJ rig?
      #824586 - 07/04/10 03:14 AM
Well, I'm helping out at a teen club now, and they have an awesome setup. Not high quality gear, but it gets them by. They have an Alesis 16-channel mixer, Behringer processor, dual 15 band EQ, and Peavey crossover. Right now they only have two amps (one that runs stereo and one with one side out, but the B side on it works great). The way they had it wired up before was for their band (consists of vocals, main guitar (electric & acoustic), bass guitar, and a kick drum mic) so the left side was mids/highs, and the right side was the low's. They're going to be gone out of town this weekend, so we rewired the rig to go from mixer -> EQ -> processor -> crossover -> amps -> speakers. I'd like to leave it like that (albeit changing them around in whatever the best order for processing is) so that I can use it for DJ use, then they can use it for band use whatever way possible. They said the main problem was getting the kick drum to sound good while leaving the rest of the rig intact. I don't see the problem, but maybe you guys can help me here. FYI: they're running 4 dual 15" + horn tops and two JBL M-Pro subwoofers (I'm assuming the 528's?)

Thanks guys.

Also a gate inserted on the kick will enable you to push the gain more before feedback[same on the toms if you are micing the whole kit]
Presonus do a 8 channel gate [acp88 or the older acp8]which is probably the most economic solution as they pop up on ebay for £250+ occasionally

Alright, well what would be the best way to set the gate up? It's a Behringer MDX4600 (yes, Behringer eww, but it's the best we got).

Also, would it be better to run from the mixer to the compressor, or vice versa? We've bypassed the compressor because it fiddled around with our sound, but we're wanting to put it back in.

Also, we're looking for new HF drivers to replace in our dual 15's...they have the standard screw-in horns, so I was thinking about the Peavey RX14's. The speakers are Kustom dual 15's (yes, another cheap brand) but they have enough power running to them.

Thanks.

Sorry for the double post, but didn't want to make a new topic & it wouldn't let me edit my previous one.

We're debating on how we should set up our PA. We're getting $398 to use at Guitar Center for a new amp. The way I see it, we have two options.

Right now, we have:
1 Behringer EP2500 running in parallel mono to two JBL MP255S subwoofers (750w going to each sub)
1 Carver MP255 running into two (soon to be four) Kustom KSC 215H for the mids (until we get HF drivers)
1 QSC amplifier with one side working running into two Yamaha 12" speakers for highs.

Option 1: Buy the EP2000 amplifier, use it to power the Kustom's, two to each side (it will handle a 2 ohm load with no problem, done it with my car subwoofers in my house for 8 hours lol), running mids & highs, & keep the EP2500 for the bass.

Option 2: Buy the EP4000 for $50 more, put that amp on bass (1400w each side into the subs, put the EP2500 on mids/highs (1200w each side to 2 KPC215H's per side, overkill yes but would rather have more power)

Both options we will put the Carver on the Yamaha's & put them on monitor use, one for the guitars & one for the drummer.

As said before, we're putting (more than likely) Peavey RX14's or something similar in the Kustom's, so which would be the best option? I know it seems like overkill on the high's, but if my two 12" speakers can handle 500w apiece, I'm sure the 215's can handle much more.

We can't get anything else, we can only work with what we have, and we are very limited on our budget. Which sounds like the better option? Thanks
