psp vintage warmer-fx channel pan problem new
      #838425 - 06/06/10 11:21 PM
Hi all,

I really like the psp vintage warmer but am having a slight problem using it as an fx channel. My hope was that it would work in a similar way to reverb: basically that its "output" or "mix" settings would work in a similar way to the "wet/dry" settings of reverb when used through an fx channel. However, I'm finding that the "driver" control determines the amount of effect that transfers through to the track.

So, in a sense it works, but this brings me to the problem: it looses left and right pan controls on the channel it's sent to, the more PSP I give to a channel through the fx send = less pan definition.

So my question is: can I use plugins like the psp vintage warmer as an FX send and maintain my pan control on the channels that are receiving these fx signals? Am I missing something obvious here??

I'm using Nuendo 3 on PC, and am using reverb fx channels that cause no problems to the pan definition.

Any help is massively appreciated,

Cheers!

Martin

You would normally use it as an insert effect. If you want to use it on a number of tracks then you will need to create a bus and send all the tracks to be effected to that bus and insert Vintage Warmer as an effect on the bus. As you have found, it doesn't work in the same way as reverb.

Hi James,

When you say I need to create a bus and send all the tracks to be effected to that bus, are you meaning I should create a "Group channel" and send all the tracks to that group? The problem with this is that I'll still loose the pan control for each track - as now they will all be controlled by the groups pan: all together. so unless I'm missing something, that won't solve the problem...

Or, maybe you're talking about something new to me!?

Cheers!

Martin

If you create a stereo group and route your track outputs to that group the panning of the source tracks is retained in the group. If you're losing your panning then there's a mistake at work somewhere - make sure you are creating a stereo group and have VW set to stereo operation.

Ah!!

That's solved the problem! I've been using mono group channels, good detective skills...

Thanks a lot!!
