How's the new Pendulum album? new
      #838489 - 07/06/10 11:35 AM
A friend played me a track on his iPod speaker. . . and I've been meaning to buy it. The other two are on the fatiguing side of ruined-by-mastering, and I was wondering if this one is any better/worse?

Same old kick and snare samples again I notice though innit.

i've only heard the (rather catchy) lead single on the radio, but yes, that was my first thought...

Even worse, same bloody Cubase synth!

The albums actually pretty good, I was disappointed with the last album, but loved Hold Your Colour, this is somewhere in between. Hopefully one day he'll learn to hold back on the singing...

The Mastering is as to be expected, but I don't really find it excessively fatiguing.

Pretty much as you expect by numbers Pendulum DnB I.M.O. Not really any stand out tracks on this album for me and it does just sound like they dialed in the sessions without trying. Polished and over produced sounding pop DnB, which isn't really my bag but I'm sure it'll sell by the bucket.

I'm quite liking the Netsky album promo mixes at the moment. Looking forward to a copy of that album to fuel my summer BBQ's.

Can anyone suggest any actual Drum'n'Bass tracks by Pendulum ?

The stuff I've heard all sounds like the Prodigy - ie. not d'n'b in the sense I'm familiar.

"Slam" is about as 'proper' as their drum & bass gets — and not too bad, in a 'mid-noughties, too fast, overcompressed commercial drum & bass' kind of way.

'94 to '96 V Records, Suburban Base and Congo Natty are where it's at for me though, really.

Cheers!

Chris

that's why a lot of the dnb community don't really like them. "The Terminal" from Hold Your Colour is a bit more toward the conventional idea of dnb, but Prodigy is a better touchstone than dnb is for the bulk of their output. the techstep bass and snare pattern they used on 95% (kick snare [quaver rest] kick snare)of their recent material is about as close as they've got tbh.

I remember Pendulum back in my DJ days. Used to be on Renegade Hardware? Did some harder hitting stuff back then. And no singing!

Yeah, indeed. As it says on there it's more your liquid style than full on filth, but if you like your London Electricty style of beats then it'll be more than likely right up your alley.

Think both of those downloads are still alive.

Ta for the enlightenment.

Interesting - I hadn't realised that kick-snare pattern was synonymous with techstep.

Ed Rush was the king of Tech Step for me. Completely out of touch with the whole scene now though.
