Hey all, I have an Ion with one octave of keys that do not work, I have searched
online but to no avail. So I'm just wondering if anyone would have any pointers on
fixing this with a little DIY Thanks

I haven't seen an Ion, but you'll probably find that there are several ribbon-type cables
between the keyboard and the main board. Might be worth trying some contact cleaner and
reconnecting. Yahoo Groups are often a good source of information on specific
keyboards.

Looking at the service manual, there are two connectors from the keyboard assembly to the
main board. I don't know the Ion, but when I had to open my Roland A30 I found that there
were actually two keyboard assemblies with separate ribbon connectors. One of the
techniques they use to offer different versions of the same synth/controller with
different numbers of keys. So, make sure BOTH connectors or correctly seated at
both ends. Part number 40-70-0021 in the manual, 16 pin ribbon cables. Andy

Thanks I just checked that they
were seated correctly and they are... No improvement , It's just the keys from C5 up
to F5 There are little resistors on the back of the keys, I will check these as soon
as I pick up my multi-meter which is elsewhere at the moment. Any other ideas to what
it might be?

Those little
resistors may well actually be diodes. I know the Fatar keybeds have some kind of diode
matrix before going off to the encoder chip (and I do know previous Alesis keybeds were in
fact Fatar

Was it working, and then abruptly failed...? Is the missing octave at one end of the
keyboard...? And did you try a factory reset? Doesn't sound hopeful but must be worth a
go. Have you checked whether the silent keys transmit MIDI...?
