What are you listening to?

Every other forum on the Internet has one of these, so I guess there's one buried
somewhere, but I can't find it.
(What no General Chat? OK, so you've
probably been there, done that...)
I don't listen to a lot of electronic music,
but I've found myself returning again today to The Knife's Silent Shout. The title
track is a masterclass in arp.
Also re-listening to the first two albums by
Turin Brakes - The Optimist and Ether Song. Some brilliant tracks in there.

CD - Jakob Dylan. Radio - I've just sat through the Top 40 for the first time in
about 19 years (I'm at work and our 19-year old receptionist has got it on the "piped
music" system). Every single damn song identical. Don't think I heard a real drumkit or
even a guitar in the entire 2 hours. Can't remember what was number 1 but I don't think
it's Bryan Adams any more.

Natalie Merchant - Leave Your Sleep. A collection of childrens' poems set to her own
music, with help from 103 other musicians over 6 years. I thought it would be
good to help introduce the kids to music and poetry. An awesome piece of work -
no record label would touch it and she self-financed the whole thing. Most reviews have
it down as a masterpiece. More here.

Interesting how many of us listen to Radio 4. I save my down time for music
listening, but when I'm in the workshop I need Radio 4 or silence. When I'm working on a
guitar (or driving) I find music too distracting, I need to concentrate on what the guitar
is doing as a whole but listening to music tends to makes me focus on how the guitar
sounds with the music I'm listening to. And as for driving, I gave up listening to music
in the car when I discovered I was cadence braking in time with the music!! As
for tonight, 'Exit Planet Dust' by the Chemical Brothers has just finished. 'Starless and
Bible Black' by King Crimson is about to go on to accompany my final coffee and snack, and
when I go to bed I'll be listening to 'Sarangi' by Ustad Sultan Khan... I've just entered
an Indian phase again. What did strike me listening again to 'Basket of Light'
was how much Ruby Blue can sound like Pentangle at times. Andy

Not as much these last ocuple of months. I tend to listen to music when I'm in the bath,
but as it has been so hot, I've been taking showers! On my iPod I've been
listening to some mixes I have done: Diggin In the Crates retrospective. Redman - Guest spot compilation. Soul mix covering a wide range; Isley Brothers,
Marlena Shaw, Gap Band and others in that vein. I have also been selfishly
listening to myself; some Hip-Hop tracks sourced from the last 5 years, brought up to
date. I was listening to a Lamont Dozier compilation the other day as well and
the other week; Black Dog Productions - Bytes album/compilation on Warp.

Does anyone else here use Last.FM? If so we could start a Sound on Sound group and then
we'd automatically get a chart every week of what the group's been listening to.

The other week I had to some work from home; boring annual reports, so I took some time to
listen to some music whilst doing them. Donald Fagen - The Nightfly - One of
my favourite albums Walter Carlos - Sonic Seasonings - For it's time, an interesting
piece, but not a great work of ambient, a bit too much bird noise! Brian Eno -
Apollo - A wonderful album. Barclay James Harvest - Gone to Earth - I could only
manage part of side one, just not really my kind of music. It's in my collection because
it has been sampled in a Hip Hop track, but it's not my kind of music really.
