Which MIDI Controller? new
      #845782 - 10/07/10 10:28 PM
I recently upgraded my system to a Synergy DAW (using Windows 7), Pro Tools 8 LE, and Digidesign 003 Rack+. During the process of setting it up I realized there were no Windows 7 drivers for the Roland ED PC-300 midi controller I previously used, and apparently Roland have no plans to issue such drivers.

So I searched SoS for a midi-controller shoot-out, but could not find anything...

Can anyone recommend a decent midi controller for use with this system? I was looking at the M-Audio Axiom 61 - would this be ok? Or are there other controllers that might be better for around £300? I am a complete noob when it comes to keyboards/controllers so any advice much appreciated!

Hi

Click this - Roland PCR 300 :::: Drivers for Win 7

then go to download tab under the picture of PCR 300 and come back and say thanks to me.

You may find many controllers but believe me Roland is amazing. I've worked on many but ended up helplessly falling in love with PCR 800, which I use everyday now.

Dont buy anything else, if need be then upgrade to PCR 800

I am sorry Richard. I thought you were talking about PCR 300, and just noticed my mistake.

Well PC 300 is discontinued I think, and as you asked about a new controller, for that I'll still back PCR 800. All PCR series are absolutely same in functionality but varies in the size (number of keys) PCR 800 has 61 and that suits my way of doing music.

Ok, thanks! The PCR 800 definitely looks worth investigating further - always nice to have a choice too! Considering my incompetence on keyboards I think either Axiom 61 or PCR 800 would be suitable. I only need the controller to give an accurate idea of what various soft-synths sound like, as it can be hard to identify these properties just clicking on MIDI notes in the sequencer.

Then again, a decent controller might compel me to put some effort into learning keyboards
