Controller Keyboard Suggestion

I'd appreciate a recommendation on a controller for a home studio setup to access Kontakt,
East West, Spectrasonics and Chris Hein soft instruments. I currently have a weighted
Roland piano but it lacks any mod wheels etc. Factors -
1. 88 keys (poss 76)
to access keyswitches.
2. semi-weighted or weighted.
3. mod wheel(s)
4.
A ribbon controller would be good for horns.
I'm using Logic Pro 9 on an
Intel iMac (no spare firewire slots but I have spare USB ports).
The only
one I can find with a ribbon controller is the CME VX 7 or 8 which has lots of stuff I
don't want.

My advice is keep the 88 note weighted keyboard you have. Use this for piano parts
etc..
Then maybe look at something like a Novation SL61 MKII. Great
semi-weighted keybed, X-Y pad and Automap if you need it. You can pick these up for
around £300 on fleaBay and I think someone has one for sale in Readers Ads for around
£250. (Mods: It's not me by the way!!)

Thanks for those two suggestions. Is there a small add on control surface to use with my
Roland? I have tried daisy chaining my Evolution Mk 249 for the wheels but it causes
Logic to regularly crash in confusion (also a bit unwieldly in a small environment).

Maybe look for a small 25 note contoller keyboard. Korg do the K25 which is basic but has
pitch and mod wheels (the keyboard action on the K series Korgs is absolutely awful BTW).
However, should be really cheap and also has USB and MIDI.
Again, there are the
Novations. They do 25 note keyboards in all sorts of different models (SL/Remote Compact
etc.... My favorite being the SL MKII. These also all have USB and MIDI for connectivity
optionss.
Alternatively, you could trawl the Readers Ads for something like a
Yamada DX7. Can be picked to cheaply nowadays and has a great action.

I don't know
what is your budget but Doepfer makes a separated ribbon that is 50cm long, with
sensitivity to pressure and position. It can be sold with a box or a synth module that
converts the ribbon information to MIDI and CV: http://www.doepfer.de/R2M.htm http://www.doepfer.de/pdf/R2M_man.pdf

The trouble is that
ribbon controllers are deemed to be 'advanced', and therefore mainly appear on more
upmarket keyboards with lots of other features too
