Wavestation SR - vector control new
      #852546 - 09/08/10 06:45 PM
Hello,

I have just purchased one of these and have been looking for a way to control the 'missing joystick' via MIDI.

After looking at countless joystick ideas, I thought about using the Korg Nanopad (http://www.korg.co.uk/products/software_controllers/nano/sc_nano.asp) and it's touchpad to do it.

Does anyone know if this is possible, if there are enough sensor positions and if the controller mapping software will allow proper setup?

Any help would be great

for similar money and depending on space -

Keyboards Yamaha SY22&/or SY33, or desktop module TG33
contemporaries using budget versions of the same vector synthesis as the WS ,
and included a 360 joystick - IE - PERFECT !

Just about every vintage Korg has one too. ( but you need one with midi - obviously )

More hi-tech - Alesis Photon controller keyboards have an infra-red dome,
used in a similar fashion to a joy-stick, but with no actual contact.

I dont see why the Kaos or nono-pad could not be used.
The actual resolution is likely to be much higher than midi can transmit.
and in fairness the X-Y is only represented as two controllers anyway, so any two faders that output midi could do the job, if not as intuitively.

Hi Popup!

You could indeed use two MIDI faders - I’ve done so for creating a Wavestation SR joystick in the past, and you simply need them to output controllers #16 and #17.

The Yamaha TG or SY synths ought to do the job as well, and the Korg Nanopad.

However, but I wouldn’t recommend the old Korg keyboards, since these often generate pitchbend in the left and right directions, modulation on the ‘up’, and breath control on the ‘down’, making it more difficult to translate to the desired two controllers.

Roger vector,

I don't have the room for any more keyboards but I do use a Vsynth and that has a 'pad' on it. I guess I should read the manual before I go about asking how on earth you get these devices to respond and send the data to the correct destination! (if indeed they can).

The Nano would have just fitted in though and the software it comes with seems easy enough... I will try the Vsynth first I think,

Thanks for all the help.

hat's the way to go IMHO... any decent master keyboard can do it. You can even program it with the mous in PT or Logic. It's just an X/Y matrix... The important thing it's where this controls are pointing.

I have a Wavestation SR and I use MOTU Unisyn to modify the programs... And in Logic, with a bit of patience you can create your own controller and use any joystic associated with it|
