hi. this is my first post at this forum, and i don't know if this is a normal topic here,
but i have noticed a synth lead sound that i really want to find/buy/create whatever. i
have heard it in other productions aswell, but i don't remember where. the
leadsound i'm talking about is on the preview II track on http://www.myspace.com/kontaktormusicthe sound comes fading in
and kicks in after 25secs. maby someone her knows how to make this
specific sound? geir

I dont run this forum but i think its more for the synth forum...
anyway, its a
trancy kinda lead sound you can find on a trance oriented machine like access virus
(hardware) or Rob Papen Albino (Software).
if youre into synthesizing it, you
can try Native Instrument Massive (software) the Acid Filter or Scream filter there will
bring you close to what you want i think.

Oops i just rated the thread 1 by mistake! I'd say this sounds a fair bit like
a virus c or TI. Really low octave saw lead, with some fairly heavy distortion
on it, perhaps on the rectifier setting. Filter one probabaly just a LP set to
full, filter two, sounds like it could be a bandpass sweeping up and down with a fair
amount of resonance. Set the filter balance between 1&2 to around half If
you dont have a virus, then the same rules will apply, just start off with the low octave
saw and play around with a BP filter affecting around half of the signal. With distrotion
of some variety

Infected Mushroom has made and used many such variations of this kind of sound. Actually
they over used it (check any album since their debut - The Gathering). I would back
Boywander's opinion about try synthesizing it on Massive. If you want an instant fx which
might get close to it (or maybe much better) then try Sonalksis TBK2.

Grand! Geirgeir, there is always more than one route when you want to synthesize any
sound. I simply can not tell you that fifth room on the left has all the treasure hidden.
I've seen people achieving similar timbre and tonality through many different media. What
YOU may end up liking its totally on you and your sense of aural appreciation.
I would suggest you try out as many demos as possible and then finding out where you are
compromising. And then finally buy what you feel comfortable with.
Unfortunately hardware cant have a demo version (except in some ultra rare cases), and
for the hardware query I would say keep exploring net. Virus is definitely a good buy, I
owned it and then finally sold it as now I am almost completely dependent on
softwares.

Why not ask the guys that recorded/composed it? Anyone publishing themselves on That
Site would LOVE any attention at all.

FWIW The only thing I found "massive" about Massive was how massively disappointingly it
didn't live up to it's hype or promise.
It's (just) an "ok" synth but it didn't
click with me, and seemed to come with a gadzillion completely useless and awful
presets...
But one man's meat etc...

O boy! Thats too sad, Desmond. You seem to be badly disappointed by Massive, On
the contrary it has been quite delightful to me. As for presets I'll agree with you, but I
have a quite eccentric approach towards synthesis. I tend not to browse presets when
working on any synth, instead I fiddle around and figure out my own way into a synth. I
would say that massive is much more capable of what it seems to be on the face. It too has
its limitations like any other plug, but its ability to produce sounds that are almost
pure or uncolored gives me a lot of space for further manipulation. Hence I love to use it
as much as Absynth (which, by the way, is also grand).
