New Pro Tools interfaces, Omni,
      #854205 - 17/08/10 07:13 PM
A Pro Tools HD interface that might work with your laptop?

Oh god,

Madi conversion box, Proper Madi support.

My they kept this reasonably quiet.

If the Omni is at the price point reasonable enough I can see most LE systems disappearing handing the low end over to M Audio/Mackie.

I'm not sure where the Omni fits in to be honest. At the American price of $3995, that'll be no cheaper than £2,500, probably £3,000+. That's not really even in between to top end LE boxes and the HD boxes. I may be wrong and Avid stick a price of £1,500 on it but I doubt it!

There is one thing that I have to say I love about them, and I know it's only a little thing. I think they look fantastic.

I've been watching this all with some interest.

I would be overjoyed if Avid were to release a laptop solution for HD (and it would explain why they have crammed so much into a 1U device with the omni).

Not too hopeful though.

I think the omni is most definitely a pro device though. Avid do need to bridge the gap between LE and HD but this really isn't it. This IO may be small and convenient but it is aimed squarely at small post facilities and possibly education, not LE/MP users.

Here's to hoping that there's more to come tomorrow...

I reckon they will package the Omni with a laptop card for £3k UK, this thing is meant to rival the best converters out there right now.

I'd say the people paying 7k for prisms, or even £3k for apogees, lavry will be interested, especially if it does work with laptops and you can get HD with some special rtas allowances.

Very interesting.

It's directly in line with the Orpheus - so it's gotta be around the £3,500 mark.... my guess!

I'm hoping 2.5, 3-3.5k with the new connect card whatever it turns out to be,
