Vocal effects live on stage??

Hello, We are a five-piece rock/indie band and looking for a vocal effect unit
or whatsoever for use on-stage. (Delay and modulation effects in certain parts of the
songs) An option is the Digitech's Vocal 300
or something familiar. Does anyone have experience with a unit like this? Or other tips
and tricks? Thanx, Sander.

All things considered, still yet to find a unit that even comes close to the old Roland
SE555 echo /chorus... particularly in a live context. They aren't cheap second hand, but
they are seriously gorgeous IMHO...

er.. no. assume
this and you will turn up to a clup without any outboard.
if you want something
specific ring them before the gig or bring your own.

Johnny Dowd, who lives here in my hometown, runs a Shure Green Bullet through a Boss
Loopstation and creates vocal backing tracks for himself. This sounds really fantastic
for his music, which is weird and harsh and atmospheric...

HI i am just about to buy a TC helicon Voice live for my singer, and it looks wicked.
eq > Compression > Pitch Corrector > Vocal thickening > Harmonies > Reverb > Delay.
it is pricey, but looks realy good. Another option

Here's an off the wall suggestion - look out for a second hand Allen & Heath DP1000 live
digital mixer (there's a 300W per channel powered version but you probably wouldn't need
that). It comes with 8 channels, two internal FX busses (reverbs and a load of other
stuff), plus compression/limiting, EQ, noise gates on each channnel.
Being
digital it has "song" memories - you can set it up differently for a number of different
songs and cycle through them with a footswitch, so if you want more delay or chorus for a
particular song you just press a button to bring those settings up.
Probably
get one for £300-400 second hand.

Dont suppose anyone's heard of a guy called Son of Dave, does a similar thing with
a vox amp, an old cop style mic, a harmonica, a multitacking pedal and a boss octave
pedal. One of the best live acts ive ever seen.
As for live effects, i know you
wont get the chance to stand at the back and do it, but i use a TC Electronic D2 on much
of the live work i do, and that is one amazing bit of kit. Tap tempo delay and all kinds
of krazy features!

little bit suprised nobody has mention the korg kaoss pad. It was made with DJs in mind
but is fantastic on anything. i used it a lot with the band i 'play' with in the summer
and got some really crazy whacky vocals going on. It also has 2 6 second sample banks so
the vocals can really be screwed up, as well as the traditional filters chorus, reverb
delays etc.
you can pick one up for about £220 quid.
im well
pleased with mine. tip top!

Yeah, the Kaoss pad looks really cool. Seen Radiohead using two of them (Johnny and Ed) to
mess up Thom's vocals in "Everything in it's right place" (A live-version can be found on
their "I might be wrong - live" album)
Anyway, I think we're really looking for
something with a mic in- and output so that connecting the thing is very easy (if - for
instance - there's no time for a good soundcheck at those competitions we plan to do...)

yeah, radiohead was the first time i'd seen/heard a kaoss pad back in the kid a days of
2000. It does have a mic in option, but it is a jack rather than a XLR. but it
doesn't really cause any problems. It doesn't have a mic out, but why would
you want that?? the built in pre amp brings it upto line level and then feed that out into
your mixer or whatever. If korg did a kaoss 3, a few better connectivity
options would be nice. like some line level jack inputs rather than phono. but anyway,
thats off subject. again, i highly recommend the kaoss pad.

THANK
YOU!
I was wondering how they did that. I just couldn't get my head around it.
Been listening to that live "ep" for quite some time, but never figured it out.
Guess I'll try to grab one of those as soon as funds allow!
Hal.
