Oberheim Matrix 1000 initialisation/patches 0-199 new
      #862423 - 20/09/10 07:09 AM
Hi Folks,

Does anyone have a Matrix 1000 and could send me a sysex dump of the RAM banks? Or better does anyone know how to re-initialise the RAM banks?

I changed the battery on mine, and it doesn't play anything on patches 0-199. The higher (ROM) patches play fine. There is an initialisation - press enter at startup. But that doesn't touch the RAM. So I'm left with a Matrix that only plays on 200-999.

Thanks,
Rob

I've just acquired a Matrix 1000, but the ebay seller in his infinite wisdom decided to erase patches 0-199.

So I'm in the same position as you

I guess I'll just have to get busy with the software editor, and start making my own patches.....

Hi, guys

Matrixed claims to have direct dumps of all of the M1000 sounds so the first two files in this series will be the ones you want. I have a 6R so I can't say for sure...

And you'll find a lot more stuff here..

But with such a selection of usable editors, there is no excuse to stick to the presets!

Thanks Lads,

After a lot of ferreting about on the 'net I found some sysex/midi files. It was then quite easy to import them into the sequencer, and get them onto the module.

I don't know if they are the same as the presets, but at least I have something in 0-199. There is no published way to restore the presets into the RAM. That is strange, because they must have a way to put them on at the factory.

The Matrix modules are now very old, so most of them will need a new battery.

Yes, there are a surprising number of patch editors out there.

Anyway if anyone wants the patch files I have, it's no problem to forward them by email.

Cheers,
Rob

Patches 0-199 is by factory default just a selection of patches from the 200-999 ROM bank, so better to make your own ones for the first 200 sounds

So here I am about a year later, and I still haven't found a software editor for the Matrix that works in XP. Any suggestions gratefully received

Hi Minke

Another option - I've been using the Matrix 2001 editor on XP without any major problems. good price. Not tried any others though.

Thanks Strangy. 15 euros seems like a reasonable price to me.

Finally I'll be able to stop using presets....and also satisfy my inner nerd

You'll find just being able to tweak the pre-sets will help you create loads of new sounds.

I love my Matrix. Lots of people will say its not an OBX, blah blah blah, but there is a lot of classic Oberheim DNA in these machines. I bought an 'OBX' vst plug in, I quite liked it,and thought thats a close as I am going to get I guess, but I bought a Matrix 6 anyhow and it blew it away.
I like to think of them as Juno 60's or 106's - yeah not Jupiter 8's but classics in thier own right - plus a nice way to get that 'American' sound.
