Help.....Digidesign 002 Pro Tools 6.4 LE
      #87392 - 13/02/05 05:31 PM
I have recently purchase a Digidesign 002 running Pro tools 6.4 and I want to buy a good reverb unit, but have been advised to buy a powercore firewire, which has various plugins as well as very good reverbs aparantly. What I need to know is can Powercore run with pro tools without any problems.

thanks

The TC Powercore range is only compatbile with VST and Audio Unit applications. Pro Tools LE uses RTAS for its plugins, so you'll need to purchase an adaptor.
FXpansion do a suitable convertor (VST - RTAS) and there's a review here: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/jul04/articles/fxpansion.htm

I don't personally use this combination, but I understand that even with the adaptor, not all the powercore plugins work properly (or even at all?).

An alternative would be to purchase a decent suite of plugins, or just a separate reverb. Waves do a highly regarded selection of plugins and support RTAS. The Waves Native bundle should come to about the same price as a Powercore Firewire and offer similarly high quality plugins.

Do a search on this site for reviews of Waves and other plugin sets.

I'm with Smithee on this one. I use Waves stuff with the FXpansion wrappper and it works well. If you check out the Digi forums there are lots of issues with this combination though some people have it working - trouble is TC doesn't support it.
