Mackie Onyx 1220i vs A&H Zed 12fx
      #880322 - 08/12/10 09:07 PM
Dear all

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere, but I have been looking for a while now and not found quite this query.

BTW, you're all very patient with people like me, so long may it continue.

I am hoping to invest in some new gear soon, having existed for 20 years on second hand and hand me downs. I have a reasonable set up, just old and a bit slow with some limitations.

One of my main aims is to get a new PC and a new interface. I want to be able to record multiple inputs and assign them separately to individual tracks in my DAW (Sonar).

In an ideal world I would have a mixer/interface/control surface. But I am on a limited budget and will have to forego something. Control of the DAW is perfectly fine via the keyboard for me at the mo. So I have had my head turned by the two recent reviews of the A&H and the Mackie Onyx.

Can someone with more experience than me tell me what separates them in terms of their value in a hybrid set up? And whether there is anything to recommend one over the other?

Many thanks in advance.

Jake

Main difference is that the ZED only provides a stereo signal over USB, whereas the Onyx appears to provide separate channels over firewire, but I don't own one, so would pay to double check.

The ZED, nice mixer as it is, will not deliver what you need.

Thanks for that, Bob. Confirmed what I had suspected about the ZED.

I have downloaded both user guides and been through both reviews a couple of times to make sure.
