Installing Linux Elive with a windows 7 machine
      #890029 - 26/01/11 09:28 AM
Hi guys, I know I been away frmo here for years, so I am a bt out of touch.

I was just wondering if I can install an elive linux distro on a machine that has W7 on it. I will set it up as a dual boot system with the option of booting into Linux or W7.

I am not sure W7 will be too happy about another OS being on the drive and I wonder if I can still use Grub as the boot loader.

The good news is that Win7 is far less obstructive than earleir versions. In fact, only yesterday I installed ubuntu 10.10 to dual boot on a friends laptop.

He is very pleased with it, impressed with the boot up speed, and the fact he can read the Win partition from linux

Yes and no.

It is a more speed oriented distro with a balance of eye candy from enlightenment, but it is not aimed specifically at music creation and would still need slight tweaks here or there for most things in that regards. It has been some time since I used it though so my memory can still be slightly faulty.

elive is not particuly for music. I just like the look and feel of it. It generally works.

I want a non MS OS on my PC because if I expereince problems, I can always boot into Linux to see if it is the OS or hardware.

I also have a Mac Book Pro whih I really love.
