Euphonix Transport
      #894593 - 14/02/11 06:18 PM

Hello all

Seeking a bit of advice. I am looking to get a control surface and as I am using Logic and Apogee I figure that Euphonix is probably the way to go. The MC Mix looks like it going to do a pretty good job for me, I'll use it for mixing (clearly) - 2 questions really, about the other products:
1 - MC Control - other than a touch screen what does it add that the Mix doesn't have?
2 - If I got the Transport added on to the MC Mix would that give me a good approximation of whatever I am missing without the MC Control?
3 - Do most people with the Trnasport use the jog wheel much for editing etc or do you just tend to stick to the mouse in real life?

OK so that was three questions but I just thought of the last one as I was typing.

Any input greatly received - bear in mind I am on a budget so "I love having my 6 MC Mixes 3 Controls and 5 Transports hooked up to 8 Mac Pros" type responses will elicit envy but won't be super-helpful

Many thanks!

Luke

I have been checking out some alternatives, and I have put the iPad at the top of my list of options.

The AC-7 Pro app has been available quite some time already.

Searching the app store turns up a load of others, and there should be more choices soon, e.g. I guess Novation are working on an iPad version of Automap. At 10 quid or less per app, it's no big deal to leave one app in favour of a new and improved one.

Hi Luke

I own the Mix and the Transport and I very happy.
I used to have the Control but sold it to buy the Transport and a pair of old ns-10m studio instead

I liked the Control but didn't make use much of the touch screen as I mostly use keyboard commands and I just didn't get used to it. And also, the way you can edit plugins, pan, inserts, etc. is not the same on the Mix and Control.
The Mix doesn't have a jog wheel (obviously), which was working awesome on the Control, therefore my decision to buy the Transport to have the wheel (find it so useful with the Mix)

The other thing that can bother people with the Control is that the faders are not aligned with the Mix. I got around by placing the Mix on the right but I know some people are not happy with that, others deal with it in their own way.

Now, all goes well with the Transport along with the Mix, and I plan on buying another Mix soon.
I find the jog wheel ultra precise, the keypad gives you instant access to markers, etc and the 6 soft keys can be customized.

Now, if I could only find a carrying bag for it, it would be nice.
Anyone knows where to find such accessories?

Have a good mix
Mike.

Thanks for the replys guys. To sum up the Transport is really useful and the mix is great and I won't be missing anything vital without the Control. Decision made then I think. Just need to work out what to sell in order to find it...

Thanks also for the iPad suggestion, but I am really after some tactile faders. I have the Automap App on my iPhone and the novelty value quickly wore off, except for the occasional remote transport control when tracking which is useful. IPad might be a different experience I suppose...

Thanks again

Luke

Anyone know if the MC Transport can control iTunes ?

There seem to be a few mentions on the web, but nothing with sufficient detail to instil confidence.
