Intermittent screeches a new problem new

About a month ago I started to get intermittent audio dropouts lasting 2 seconds and a high frequench computer screech. They occur identically in all audio applications. As I am unable to resolve this problem I'm at the stage where I am going to try a new audio device or reinstall windows XP (my current OS).

Problem is with MOTU Ultralite mk3 via firewire and am not sure if problem exists on my integrated audio card, but will check.

Any help appreciated, thanks.

Looks like it can use USB as well. Does that have the same symptoms...? Firewire cards and integrated sockets can be a culprit. What DAWs are you having problems with...? Using the latest ASIO drivers I presume...?
