Distorted mix

Can someone help me,when my mixes are completed i check them out on various systems,my car radio,hifi,crappy ghetto blaster and other peoples hifi's and car radio's if i can and to be honest I am happy with the mixes except when i burn it to dvd or play it on a tv it is distorted,i have tried several tv's and dvd players with the same result,am i missing something,All my meter levels before mixing down are fine.Help please.

When you say 'meter levels are fine' - what are they?

Do you mean your main levels in your DAW mixer?
When you are burning them, are you opting to normalise your tracks in your burning software?

Just exactly how are you authoring the DVDs?

DVD-A or DVD audio is a specific format the requires a DVD authoring app.

You need to leave rather more headroom on DVD than you would for CD. Discussion here: http://www.gearslutz.com/board/mastering-forum/482429-max-level-dvd-master ing.html
In my experience, dropping the level by 10dB will give you undistorted playback at a reasonable volume compared with commercial DVDs.
