Uad 1 Card with G5/Logic 6/MOTU Pci set up???????
      #90992 - 20/02/05 09:42 PM
I have a dual 2.5 G5 and running Log 6/and 7.
I also have a Motu set up ,using latest PCI card.
I want to get the UAD card Pci.
Anybody using this along side the Motu Pci card in a G5.
What are the issues with Logic.
I mainly want to use the compressors on the channels ,sometimes on group outputs.
Cheers
ROB

Generally it seems to work pretty well, although some people are reporting problems with random pops and clicks.... and it seems oddly, to be less efficient than it was in the G4.

Also bear in mind that logic still does not have Buss or output , plug in delay Compensation

so channels is fine, but group compression can cause phase issues, as the UAD imposes a small delay on the audio, which is not compensated by the System so you need to measure this delay, and then manually compensate all the other channels.... YUKKK

Hello Magenta.... Max well met.

I've been using the uad-1 on my mac dp 2 ghz, only with Digital Performer 4.5 with impecable success, I would assume that logic could have the issue of Delay compensation. if ur good with numbers u can make the corect delay offsets yourself by nudging the track with a uad plug on it forward. But trust me the quality is worth the hastle. And if your system is set up correctly you shouldn't have ticks or pops :-)
Hope I've been helpfull.

Hi

A few extra points:

The UAD1 comes with track advance and delay compansation plug ins, which help you get round any phasing issues.

The G5 and UA combo has problems with models which use the AMD8131 chipset - the result being that you will see higher host load when using larger amounts of lower dsp plug ins - cambridge, 1176se, ex1 etc... The exception to this is the *current* G5 DP 1.8 ghz machine which has PCI slots only and behaves more like a PC in respect of plug in counts.

Current wisdom recommends if you have a machine other than this model, you consider acquiring a magma chassis - which many Protools users seem to be offloading cheaply as they migrate to HD systems.

Last, there is a thriving community of UAD1 users at www.chrismilne.com/uadforum where you can get up to the moment advice on setup and configuration of your system. UA's support is also well regarded, and worth checking out if you have specific issues, which are not addressed in their extensive support notes.

Hope this helps
Cheers
Chris

I can confirm that the Dual 1.8 behaves exactly like my G4 in respect to the UAD-1 - which is why I bought it!
