Please Help me with my AKAI sampler Z4
      #915940 - 24/05/11 03:01 PM
Hi

I have tried the search i have tried all over the internet and can not find a solution to my problem

I have the Akai Z4 sampler and now when i turn it on it gets past the splash screen and to the default "Multi 1" screen and then its frozen solid.

No buttons work, i cant change the screen. here is where it gets intresting, i can however access the sampler form my pc, see its on and even access the disks but when i click "show front panel" it shows it and its frozen, can click buttons but nothing responds.

I thought it was a possible HD problem so i removed the disk, nothing changed.

re-seated all the RAM and still the same problem

I have latest os, its in great nick.

anyone have this sampler and this problem or any advice ?

please help

thanks

When you say 'show front panel' does that mean when you are using AK.SYS?

Is it something wrong with the front panel connections?

You might well get a reply from 'Hollowsun' on here, and I think he actually worked on the development of the software for the Z series

yes in the aka.sys

when i turn the sampler on, it shows panel os, then slash screen then loads the default "Multi 1" screen but no buttons respond when being pressed.

my pc can find the sampler and access the RAM and HD. when i click "show front panel" it shows the panel on screen with "Multi 1" but when i click the buttons its shows them being pressed but they also dnt change anything on the unit.

its as if the unit has frozen and cant change anything.

i have tried removing 8 outs, memory, HD turned it on with all them removed etc and still the same thing.

A friend of mine who had a Z4 had a similar problem, in that his sampler worked fine but front panel didnt. His solution was to take it back and get the panel replaced. Have you tried a new but identical cable? (they could be tricky to find as you would have to find the exact sort of DIN cable they use in the Akai - same sockets, wiring etc.).

Its a shame that they are OOP as there probably arent any places you could go for parts or servicing.

I have a question for you however, are you using aksys on windows 7 by any chance? ive just changed to win7 from XP but cant get the z4/z8 drivers to work. If you do know a way round this problem, I would love to hear it.

cheers

chris
