Mic for under £300 new

Hi guys,

Did a search, but can't seem to find a related thread.

I'm looking for a great multi-purpose mic for under/around £300. Main things being recorded would be vocals (male and female) and possibly some guitar (acoustic).

What do you guys recommend? Have looked at the Rode NT1 - any other suggestions?

Go second-hand and you'll get a better mic for your money. Something like the SE4400a would be excellent. If you want to keep things as cheap as possible, then something like the Audio Technica AT2020 or whatever model number the multi-pattern equivalent is would be good; or maybe Rode M3. Anything by Rode, SE, MXL, AKG etc towards the top end of that price bracket should offer you something very usable.

Alternatively, maybe look at an AT2020 for vocals, and then get a separate pencil condenser (Rode NT5? Sontronics? MXL? Even a decent mic second hand like a C451EB should come in on budget and leave you with change) for the ac guit.

I got a pair of rode nt55 for that much, there is a pair of nt5s with spare omni caps on the bay just now, not allowed to post links to the bay here but has to be worth a look
