Recording electronic guitar to PC
      #919276 - 09/06/11 01:18 PM
Hey,

I am just wondering if anyone has experience working with electronic guitar before? I am trying to record it to my PC but is not sure where to start. Do I need special hardware / software to go along?

Thanks.

Hi Jas and welcome!

I presume you mean electric guitar - or am I missing something?

Before we jump in with answers, what do you have already? For instance:

* What amp?
* Do you have any 'recording' software?
* Do you have any microphones?
* Do you have any form of audio interface for the PC?

Cheers! Mike

Hi Jas12 - you will need a sound card for your PC and some software to record into. If you get a sound card with a hi-z input then you can plug your guitar straight in and use software to simulate playing electric guitar through an amp and record the results. If you get a sound card with mic inputs then you'll need to buy a separate Direct Injection box to convert your signal into something a microphone input wants to receive.

If you've got an amplifier for your guitar and you want the sound of the amp on your recordings then you will have to get a microphone to record it with.

People have different things they want to achieve with recordings. Musicians may want to just jot down ideas or even create recordings that can be of a high quality to be featured on professionally released music.
