OSX Upgrade question
      #921144 - 18/06/11 04:15 PM
Hi -

I'm about to buy a MBP, right now, but wonder if I purchase now and install my music software - will I have to reinstall everything from scratch when OSX Lion comes out, or will I be able to upgrade without much pain of having to reinstall from scratch?

Thanks,
Kevin.

It would be a painless upgrade No need to reinstall anything.

In fact it should be the easiest upgrade yet, given that it will be done via the mac app store (no DVD). So barely any more hassle than the smaller system updates we are now used to.

It wont hurt to back up first though!

Check compatibility of your existing software and hardware though. There are usually a few glitches on major OS updates...

Hi Kevin,
I wouldn't upgrade in a hurry if I were you.
There's bound to be teething problems with Lion & it's the first time an OSX update has been done in this way (ie without a DVD), so there's almost certainly going to be issues of some sort or another.
Some music software & plugins are likely to be incompatible for a short while, so it makes sense to wait before updating to Lion for a Mac used for making music.

+1 for getting the mac and waiting for the upgrade.

I've just got a 15" MBP. Glad I got it now as I know everything I need to use works in Snow Leopard

New machines fly btw
