Appleworks 6 replacement ?
      #923012 - 28/06/11 09:49 AM
I have used Appleworks 6 as my Software for Writing and storing Lyrics, Drawing Studio plans, etc. for many years, but it is playing up a bit these days, and I wondered if Apple have ditched it and replaced the facilities it gave me with another piece of Software.
Appleworks 6 stores its files as 'cwk' and nothing else on my Mac will open these files ?

You need to get IWork, which has Pages and that opens cwk files.

Yep, iWorks is the way to go. Way better in every respect except it has no database.

Hmmm, Spoke too soon I'm afraid. I loaded iWork, but when I try to import/load an Appleworks 6 ( cwk) letter/document, all I get is.

The document “BNP Transfer 03/05/2011.cwk” couldn’t be opened.

I believe I can change the format of the Appleworks documents in the 'Save as' drop down, but the formats offered are:
Clarisworks 4, Word Windows Mac 6 or 98, Word Windows 97, 2000. XP 2002 . HTML RTE, Text.

Any ideas which format will give me the 'cwk' document in exactly the same way as it was in Appleworks 6 ?

Again pardon me if this is not a Mac Music related question. But my lyrics are obviously an important part of my Apple Logic songs.

Are these definitely Apple Works 6 docs and not created on version 5 or earlier?

I know you have version 6 now, but could the files you are trying to open have been created in a pre version 6 install, as Pages will only open version 6 files?

If this is the case, you could try open the document in v6, make a small edit and do a 'save as' and give it a new name.

Also, try right/command clicking on the files and choose Pages in the open in command.

final option is save in a MS word format and then open that in Pages.

I recently converted years worth of Clarisworks/Appleworks documents using... the last available version of Appleworks and Pages on my i5 MBP in OSX 10.6.7.

Pages (the word processing component of iWorks) opened AW text documents without any issues.

If an AW document was created with drawing and text tools, Pages wouldn't open it. In that case I saved the document as a PDF: Print>PDF>Save As PDF.

But moving forward, iWorks with Pages is the way to go.
