Recording the Beatles - reviewed SOS Dec 2006 new
      #922775 - 27/06/11 08:33 AM
No idea where this post should go, but...has anyone ordered this book (from the USA with huge postal charges)and not received it, spent ages waiting for it or not had their e-mails responded to? I am having huge problems with the company who have not answered my e-mails in 10 days regarding my order (the money left my account 6 weeks ago!). Maybe anyone thinking of buying should hold off for a while until I get some answers.

I emailed asking if there was a way to buy it without the ridiculous shipping charges (i.e. somewhere closer to the advertised price of $100), but that was several weeks ago and I still haven't had a reply. Disappointed to hear you haven't had any luck either...

I bought it a couple of years ago with no problem.

my missus (gawd bless her) bought it for me birthday earlier this month. Got it no worries. I know someone who had some problems a while back and eventually got sent two I think so it looks like they can be a little bit erratic.

(assuming you mean the Geoff Emerick book)....

I bought a second hand copy from the UK in reasonable condition a month or so ago.
I know you've already paid, but if comes to nothing and you still want to read the book (and you do, believe me) try the 2nd hand route.

It's a great book, one of the authors posts on GS occasionally, seems like a genuine guy. Maybe you could phone them?

...I don't doubt the integrity of the authors and I have seen the book...it is an amazing thing!...I'd just like to know if I'm going to see my $162 again! I'm afraid it would seem the publisher's don't go in for giving out their telephone nos. What's GS?

thanks for all replies, btw.

A little confusion has crept in here I think... The book being referred to by the OP is I believe 'Recording The Beatles' by Kevin Ryan & Brian Kehew, which can be ordered here: http://www.recordingthebeatles.com/. Brian Kehew is a brilliant recording engineer/producer, uber-Beatles fan, and turns up from time to time on message boards such as GearSlutz (GS) & ProSoundWeb.

There is another book called Here, There & Everywhere (My Life Recording the Music of The Beatles) which is a potted autobiography by Geoff Emerick, the Beatles' engineer from Revolver onwards. This book is much cheaper and more readily available (but still a darn good read!).

I too am saving up for the Ryan & Kehew wonder-book, but have been similarly put off by the massive postal charges from the US. Anyone popping over Stateside like to bring me one back??

yes, the book is the very expensive (but worth it) one. I have at last had an e-mail back from the publishers. My order was lost and another now sent. I, too, know of someone who has received two copies.... Anyway, thanks for your contributions.

Any one of those with a second copy like to negotiate the sale of it to a very eager Beatlophile?

Sorry, my misunderstanding, though I did say " assuming you mean the Geoff Emerick book.."
Was not aware of this other one, and phew! $162! I can see why you are somewhat perturbed. Best of luck with it. Meanwhile, I'm off to my local library to see if it's in stock anywhere in the County's collection.
