Help me treat our practice space! What, where and how..?
      #923403 - 29/06/11 03:17 PM
We recently started leasing an industrial unit (pictured below in its anticipated completed state!) which sounds terrible when we're practicing. The bass is boomy or disappears depending where you are in the room and there are mid-high frequency reflections bouncing everywhere.

The long walls are 32 foot long (not metres as in the picture) and are brick with plasterboard over the top (not sure what's inbetween) while the shorter walls are painted brick.

We'll have the couches and tables in soon, and where the partitions on the picture are, there will be a long roof to floor curtain instead, but the program wouldn't allow me to do that!

What can we do to improve the acoustics? I've done some light reading and superchunk bass traps in each of the corners seems to be a good start, followed by some hanging acoustic panels which I'll make out of 30-50mm semi-ridged Rockwool(?!) wrapped in a light aluminium frame, covered in some nice fabric. Is that a good start?

Well that’s certainly a good start, but with a room 32 foot long you’ll need a lot more bass trapping than Superchunks in the corners to flatten out those boomy bass modes enough to judge how good (or bad) you’re sounding
