Static type crackle with firewire but fine with USB??
      #925005 - 07/07/11 08:11 AM

I'm using a brand new MOTU Ultralite Hybrid MK3 into a new iMac 21.5" desktop i3 processor version. My buffer settings are 512spls which REAPER shows gives me 11ms of latency and I record at 24bit 48K. I have tried recording into REAPER and Garageband using this Maplins firewire lead; http://www.maplin.co.uk/firewire-800-9-pin-to-6-pin-leads-97280?ordercode= L32BT
When I listen back there are crackles and pops like static but it isn't. The weird thing is, it's perfect when I record via USB (the Ultralite gives you both options). I prefer to use firewire as the MOTU needs to be powered by an adaptor if USB is used and I'd like to take the MOTU out where external power may not be available. Could the lead not be up to the job??
Cheers Guys
