Firewire bus fault...

My trusty Alesis multimix which has 2 firewire ports appears to have a faulty one.

As of this afternoon the hard drive plugged into the second port it is not showing up on the system.

If I plug the drive directly into the mac it's fine.

If I swap the FW cable from the mac into the suspect port, OSX can't find the alesis as a device any more...

Is this likely to be just a line driver... Anyone know if I can attempt a fix myself, or, more likely is it a tiny little SMD?
