VST Folder Configuration For x64 O/S
      #936339 - 24/08/11 02:43 PM
I just finished installing Win 7 x64 on my newly upgraded PC, and i have a question about how best to set up VST folders.

For people using a 64 bit system, do you set up separate VST folders for x64 and x86 plugins, or do you put all the plugins in the same folder? If the latter, does it matter where that folder goes -- i.e. can it go in the x86 Program Files folder, the x64 Program Files folder, or is important to put it somewhere like, C:\VST Plugins ?

My new upgrade is a i5-2500k/ASUS P8P67 system, replacing a Q8200. Haven't had a chance to do any benchmarking yet, but according to the Windows Experience Index, the new CPU is a 7.5 (out of 7.9), the RAM is 7.6, whereas the Q8200 had a score not much above 4. I can't wait to start making real time use of all the added tracks, plugins, polyphony counts, etc that a Sandy Bridge system will allow, and i definitely want to optimize my software setup.

Regards
Glenn

Keep them seperate, so for instance 32bit is in the C:/programfiles(86)/steinberg/vst and the 64bit is in c:/programfiles/steinberg/vst

Thanks, Pete.

That's pretty much the default setup created by Sonar -- C:\program files\cakewalk\vst plugins and c:\program files(x86)\cakewalk\vst plugins.

Wasn't sure whether it was in fact optimal.
