how do you convert music from itunes on first gen macbook pro from mp4 to mp3....

iTunes/ Preferences / Import Settings / MP3

Then highlight the track in iTunes and select 'create MP3' from the Advanced drop down menu.

...but be aware that converting from one lossy format to another is likely to make the audio quality even worse...
