Crossfeed Settings for Headphones

Is there a precise setting when I use a software plugin to emulate cross-feed into my
headphones.
How much of the opposite channel should I feed into the other and
how much delay should be applied to emulate open space monitoring?
Thanks

Hi Music Manic - You may want to check out the box describing cross-feed down near the
bottom of this: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/jan07/articles/mixingheadphones.htmThere's also an SOS article somewhere that has a little piece on how to set it up
in a Cubase DAW, but I can't find it right now. Hope that helps!

If you can find a spare eighty quid, get yourself a VRM box. It's an immensely practical
tool for mixing on headphones. Crossfeed will slightly reduce the "inside your head"
stereo image, but it doesn't sound like a pair of speakers, not by a long way.

Hi uphillbothways!
I was
thinking about getting the VRM, but it sounded like it was very complicated in terms of
setup, and the SOS reviewer said it made his Cubase and Protools stutter, presumably from
the CPU load http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/apr11/articles/focusrite-vrmbox.htm .
So I've stayed away so far.
It sounds like you are liking your experience? If
so, can you comment on those observations, and describe your system a little bit
please?
Thanks!

Hi guys, I've just bought the VRM so I'll report back once I've received it and tested
it.
I have the plugins for crossfeed but I am not quite convinced?
Thanks

Hi Folderol. Yes I've seen that but am not clever enough to build
one. Do you build them? PM if so.
I've seen the Meier headphone amps but
haven't got around to trying one out yet.
Thanks

Thanks for posting that link to
my headphone mixing feature alexis
I
spent a lot of time working with various crossfeed plug-ins while researching it, and
ended up using them a lot at the time.
However, within a few months I abandoned
them all in favour of making mixes that worked both on headphones and loudspeakers - let's
face it, so many people listen on earbuds nowadays that all mixes need to be compatible
with both.
I gave some hints int hat feature on how to tweak existing mixes to
avoid the peculiar 'outside the head' feeling as well

Thank Martin.
Been a long time since I read that. I didn't realise the open
back headphones actually give a little natural crossfeed.
I agree that the
Sennheiser HD650's are very good even though they have a softer sound compared to the Sony
MDR7509's. They do seem to level things out in the mix.

Hi Guys.
I've just received the VRM box and I have been playing around on it
for ten minutes to give you an immediate view. All the presets concentrate on
certain ranges, which is really good if you want to just hear bass or highs in certain
environments. I guess if you want to mix dance or rock there seems to be some good presets
to help.
I've been listening on my Senheisser HD650's through USB nad the
laptop. I will now try SPDIF through my main music computer
There's a bypass
swith which helps you refresh your ear and is meant for A/B
