Live equipment wanted
      #937847 - 31/08/11 10:50 PM
I'm looking for some good, cheap, live equipment for bar sets

so far I have

Mixer – Behringer XENYZ 1204 FX - £120.40 thomann.de
Speaker - DB TECHNOLOGIES K 70 - £96.15 thomann.de
Mic, cable, stand – Sennheiser e840 bundle - £85.28 thomann.de

anyone got any better kit spare for cheaper or know somewhere I can get it cheaper?
Cheers

Welcome!

We need some more info before being able to give sensible advice...

... f'r instance:

* Are these to be paid gigs?
* What's the style of music?
* What's the line-up - persons, vocalists, instruments etc.
* Typical audience?

That said, my first reaction is that you've significantly under-spec'd the sort of gear you'll need to do this properly... but give us the info as requested above and we can give you some targetted suggestions.

Cheers! Mike

Welcome indeed!

If you are doing gigs for nothing then cheap and cheerful will get you by however if you are just starting out and want to progress then I would consider thinking ahead.

Good mic choice, mixer will do the job but it's the business end I would think carefully about

I think you would struggle with a single 5" 50 w speaker( some would manage fine but at a premium) and you may be easily drowned out by a small gathering of people talking and I can only imagine the sound would be pretty distorted if you tried to push it. 2 speakers like the k70 sat nice and high on stands would be far better, but it all depends on the venue

Don't rush into anything right now, think about what you want to achieve in the long run then start weighing up your options.

Good luck with the venture, I'm a dj which pays the bills but it's the live work that floats my boat.

Your more than welcome to contact us as we often sell on used sound bits Trying at the moment to put a list together online here > Used Sound Equipment BUT we're not getting very far with it

A little heads up is the Thomann kit is very good we use a number of there ativce subs and there own mic kits dont sound as bad as you might think

Always try and buy new if you can ... ... 2nd kit (like ours) is normally being sold on as there is something better out there.

Good Luck buddy

yeah forget spending £101.78 on a k70 - pop over to guilford to pick up 6 martin bins and 6 martin mid tops (with some power amps of course)

that might just be enough for a small bar

Like a said Dave we haven't updated it for a while but we do have some old small RCF Art300's, some EV sx300's knocking about Lots of bits and am always happy to lend the kit before someone buys anything .. BUT as i said these days you can buy 6month old srm450s for under £500 which would do the trick just fine.

I hate to undercut someone, but there is much better deals to be had buying used, but, you have to know what you want, and what something is worth.

That being said, I bought most of my gear new...
