Focusrite Saffire with Lion Problems
      #940685 - 14/09/11 09:30 AM
I've upgraded to Lion on my iMac and all is ok except my older original Saffire DAW interface has lost some of its facilities....the monitoring/headphones don't work any longer and some of the outputs don't have a signal there.....I can still input signals audio and midi into the main inputs and the thing still outputs on the mains....I assume that this is all to do with the abandonment of Rosetta which doesn't mean a lot to me really.....is there a fix or is it time to buy a new Daw interface that is fully compatible with Lion?......thanks in advance for any response......

Already tried but they have no plans to support this earlier product with Lion.....

Do you really need Lion, then? Going to a previous back-up would be easier/cheaper than a new interface.

Also, less related: unless somethings changed in the last month or so, the new Saffire range aren't compatible either, but they are working on it.

Although not supported, it looks like all of their hardware is working:

...including the old Saffire range. I wonder if it's a problem with the Saffire Control software. Do you really need it to access all of the inputs and outputs of the interface?

you could give them a ring on 01494 462246

i've not yet tried a pro26 on Lion

i'd think about getting a newer one though..... if you got the Pro40, you could use the old one as a standalone converter over ADAT to give you 16 in and out on similar pre's , and the newer ones have a slightly rejigged gain structure which makes tracking loud drums without clipping on kick drums easier....

Thanks everyone....it's the Saffire Mix Control that doesn't work and its main use is for me is monitoring on headphones. Focusrite don't state that any of their products are fully compatible with Lion, just that have been seen to work....whatever that means.....I don't want to revert to Snow Leopard as I like Lion in other respects and uses.....I think the answer is to change the interface.....

With my MBP 2008 model and Saffire Pro 26i/o I was having problems with audio drop outs on logic and also getting Saffire Control to switch phantom power on.

Possible solution: Before a session, restart the computer and at the window that asks "are you sure you want to restart" untick the "Reopen windows when logging back in" box. It seems to have solved the problems for me and everything is behaving itself.... touch wood. Good luck.
