HELP PLEASE!!! Have just run software update and installed the two available updates i.e. a security update for OSX and an updated iPod updater ... now things have taken a nasty turn with Logic Pro 7!!!!

When I load up I get a window saying 'Updating tree, please wait ...' and this is followed by ' Error code 748 was returned by the core audio driver'!

Logic now gives me little, no or erratic sound output through my Emagic 2/6, and similar results with Garage band.

It's also EXTREMELY sluggish ... what do I do!!!!?????

Any help GREATLY appreciated.

Have you repaired permissions with disk utility?

Best to do this before and after an OS update.

Thanks for the reply but have tried the old repair permissions but to no avail! Have since tried removing the emagic 2/6 audio interface and, using internal audio, all is fine so seems to be a problem with the core audio driver for this particular box ... have installed only OSX driver available from emagic website ... still same errors! Anyone know of a different driver for the Emagic 2/6 that is available and if so .... where!?!?!?!

For what it's worth and mainly, in case anyone should encounter the same problem, despite being on the phone for hours to both Apple and Sound Tech, I have actually managed to solve the problem myself!!!! Apparently error 748 means that the CPU can't cope with the workload ... seems this was actually a red herring ... Logic (and Garage Band for that matter) were freezing/crashing with this message on or soon after start up.

Turned out that a program called AudioXplorer ... downloaded from the Apple website was causing HUGE conflicts! ... deleted all traces of this by doing a search for all the far-flung bits and trashing them et voila ... happy Logic Pro 7.0.1!!!!

Probably need my rear end kicked for downloading the prog but it seemed a legitimate and useful analyser ... learnt the hard way and have wasted four days or more of valuable work time ... and that's with an otherwise Logic only machine i.e. no other programs ... just goes to show!
