Ok, I must be the only one who can't get the May issue from the Newsstand? It's there, but
it's been in "issue unavailable" state for quite a while and can't be purchased.
So
I had to get the dead-tree edition... where this new app is mentioned, which I can't see
in the App Store? Did I actually understand that correctly and there should be a new app
available now, outside of Newsstand?
Edit: forgot to mention that I'm using
an iPad 3

Just like to say again how much I'm enjoying the app - thank you. By
comparison I've just subscribed to the Australian AudioTechnology magazine which is
available through Zinio. Not a patch on the SOS format, very difficult to read and just a
facsimile version of the paper version. So well done SOS! Bob

Thanks Bob. yes, we did look at going down the Zinio route to produce a digital edition
thing which is just a straight PDF of the paper mag, but we discounted it for all the
reaons (and mor) that you mention. It took a lot of effort from our hard-working graphics
team and many others to arrive at optimised iPad solution we are now offering, but I think
it was well worth it, and I'm very glad you think so too. Cheers! hugh

I bought a subscription a couple of days ago, but am unable to get the May issue. The app
offers to restore my purchases, but after a bit says "Restore Purchases Failed". I have an
iPad 1, but have also installed the app on an IPad 2 (authorized to my account) with the
same negative result.
I have tried re-installing the app, to no avail.,
The free issue works fine. I was also able to purchase the April edition
separately just fine.
Any ideas?
Many thanks Rolland

Hi hleen,
Apologies for this, but
first of all we had a bank holiday here in the UK on Monday, so nobody was at work that
day. Consequently there was a build up of support queries & other important tasks
yesterday, when there was only myself handling support, and we had a lot of things built
up from the 3-day weekend. Today we have returned to normality - but having had 2 days of
'non-normality' understandably it's taking a while to get through everything
We're only a small team, so please bear with us. We're aware of the problem, and trying
as hard as we can to fix it ASAP. I've actually responded to all app-related queries today
asking for more info, so if you've not received one of these emails please try sending
another message to the app support email address (telling me which iPad you're using,
whether you're looking at US or UK edition of SOS, and which date you subscribed) and I'll
keep an eye out for your email.
Thanks for your patience & understanding.

Hi Chris, We've been advised by our service provider that they've recently
updated their software, so we're pushing an updated app through the Apple approval process
right now and hopefully it will appear on the App store in the next couple of days -
although we have no control over how long it could take, unfortunately, as it's all down
to Apple.

Ive tried to subscribe and am unable to restore any purchase - ended up getting refund
from apple - then tried re-subscribing and completely restoring my iPad - all updates have
been loaded and I have tried every workaround that the SOS support have suggested but it
still doesn't work!!! - so I guess I'll have to get another refund and give up on the SOS
app? Shame because although I have an esub I really like reading the edition on the
iPad - by the way it works if I buy separate issues and the free trial one works - just
not the subscription - I keep getting restore failed message

A lot of us are in the same situation....read this thread and you will see that SOS have
submitted an update to their app that fixes this problem. They are now waiting on apple to
approve it and all should be solved. Patience, sir!

Sound on Sound iPad App year subscription going to the trashbin, because no issues
available : "Restoring Purchase Failed" !? So here is the story (excuse my poor
english, I'm a french speaking guy ). I subscribe the app on march (more interesting than a paper edition here in belgium). Today (15/5) I run it, and it asks for an "app update", I click OK. So I wanted to
read the May issue, but I got a message "error not available". So I desinstall the
app and reinstall it. What a bad idea !!! Only the january free edition and the
one from february which I bough separately are now able to download and viewable. BUT
all the rest is tagged "BUY"/"SUBSCRIBE", and when I want to restore, it asks for my
password, wait a few, and it said "Restoring Purchase Failed" !!! (yes, I put the
right password). I upgrade to 5.1.1 my ipad1, I reboot it, but no change, for
now it's 34€ to the trashbin ! So I'm hoping this update is not the one you
spoke about a few posts ago, because it's not working :< Please let me know how
can I resolve it, or give me a good price for the paper edition ;-) Regards, fred

There is no update to the app here in UK yet so I suspect the update was a previous one.
The current version is 1.1 as far as I can see. If yours is a higher version then maybe it
was approved earlier in your country, although I was under the impression it was a single
global approval.
If shouldn't be much longer...it's been in approval for almost
a week. Since the problem is related to the popular adobe reader framework, there is
probably a back-log of a fair few updated apps to approve!

You are right, I'm using 1.1 ... the update was a May issue update, don't seem to be an
"App update". Sorry for the mistake.

I have tried those suggestions and uninstalled the app. When I try to reinstall it just
says 'waiting' and will not download.
--edit-- I think it may be an itunes
fault the downloading problem, will report back later.

I managed to sort the problem by following these instructions which you may wish to add to
the other post you linked me to. Thanks Sometimes
rebooting the router will help. Sometimes signing out of your Apple ID, restarting the
iPad and then signing in again can help. Sometimes a stalled download in iTunes can cause
problems. Check iTunes and see if you have a pending or stalled download in
there. If you do, finish that download or delete it if you can. If you can't finish or
delete the download on the iPad, do it in iTunes on your computer and then sync the iPad.
Then go back to the app store and see if you can connect. If that doesn't
work or if that was not the problem, go to Settings>Store >Apple ID, tap your ID and
sign out. Then reboot the iPad, Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home
buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the
red slider - let go of the buttons. Then go back to Settings>Store>Sign
in and sign in again and see if you can connect and download.

Thanks for the extra info Biodiode - very helpful to know what has worked for different
people so that we have several lines of advice to offer other readers with similar
problems. This is the problem with making technology so wonderfully complex -
it tangles itself up in knots more frequently!

I'm getting "Issue Unavailable" for the Latest SOS Issue. It did that last month as well
and I had tried everything suggested on the support page. The only thing that worked for
me was completely installing the app and reinstalling it again, I don't want to have to do
that over again?

Hi there, sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but for the recently released issue
(August 2012), I'm getting the "issue unavailable" message inside Newsstand, as per the
comments for previous issues.
Last month I fixed this by re-installing the app
and re-downloading the issues I had (as per the instructions), but I'd really rather not
have to do that every month, especially since I like to store the issues locally on my
iPad for easy viewing and reloading every issue every month will cane my broadband
connection somewhat...
Is this something that's likely to be fixed? I love the
iPad edition, and I'd like to subscribe to it, but I don't feel I can if it will require
me to re-install everything every month.
Regards,
Rich

UPDATE: deleting the SOS app and reinstalling it worked - the August 2012 issue is now
available for purchase, at the cost of having to reinstall the app itself, plus the two
other issues I have iPad editions for...
Kind regards,

I'm having the same issue again with this month's iPad edition. The new issue is not
available to download. I will have to delete the app, download it and all my purchases
again in order to buy the new issue. I'm using an iPad 2.
Does the problem lie
with Apple or with the SOS App?

Sorry this seems to be a recurring problem Nites -- I can appreciate the frustration. We
will look further into this, but it is genuinely outside of our immediate control as the
app and all the licensing side of it is made and run by Adobe via the iTunes site, and the
issue content is downloaded from Adobe's site too... So we have to deal with these kinds
of problems at arms length, as it were. I'm not trying to make excuses, just to explain
why it is harder than it should be to resolve these issues.
Sonny Harvey is our
man where this kind of stuff is concerned, and he'll be along shortly... But in the
meantime, I believe Adobe has updated the app with some bug fixes, so it would be
worthwhile making sure you have the latest version of the app as a starter before you go
deleting everything.

The Adobe authoring software we use does allow us to output both an iPad and Android
version. There are slight differences due to the screen aspect ratio so we have to
do a little work on that. The problem at the moment is lack of production time at SOS.
Since the launch of the iPad retina display version and updates to iOS, we've been swept
along on a tide of upgrades. We now have to make two versions of the UK and US magazine
each month, one for standard and one for retina resolution screens.
So,
apologies but we are struggling for capacity and will only be able to launch the Android
version once we've recruited another member of the graphics team. And then there's the
Kindle Fire which more and more people are asking for. Oh, and there's that new Microsoft
thingy too.
We'll get there but sorry I don't have a timescale just yet.
