Hey everyone I got an unhappy customer email.

"I used to enjoy reading Paul Farrer's Notes from the Deadline feature. There was always the smallest usable piece of info wedged inside a sarcastic ramble. I remember a bit about meta data describing songs, I remember a bit about contracts, even something about unions.

The last several months, however, just seem to be him complaining. It's not even as witty as it used to be.

As an unsuccessful media composer, I read his column hoping to get something useful. Instead I am met with a pessimistic, bitter, and nihilistic perspective. If Paul is a successful media composer than his attitude seems a bit spoiled. If he is unsuccessful, then it just seems resentful. If his career is somewhere inbetween, maybe he just needs a hug."

It's probably me just being bitter and twisted too, but I frequently laugh like a drain at Notes From The Deadline, which more than justifies its place in the mag -- especially now that Sam Inglis is less prominent in Playback. No matter how bleak the outlook at any moment in my life, just thinking about the episode with Channel Five and the courier still raises a smile, often twinned with some sotto voce swearing...

Keep up the good work, I say!

Probably from some Jobbsworth in the apple store without a GSOH. Personally I didn't find this months quite as funny as usual, but ordinarily it's the one column that makes me laugh out loud. I'm not even sure it matters much whether you have the slightest interest in composing for media, you can recognise people & attitudes you deal with in every walk of life. More of the same please, I access can useable info anywhere, laughs are harder to come by...

Notes from the Deadline is both a pleasure to read month on month and a salutary reminder that even the best Pro's with great track records have to deal with overly empowered 2-2 graduates.

Keep up the good work Paul, you are among friends here

Paul, if you're finding you're not quite in the right mood, due to the complaint by the dude, then email me and I'll do my best to piss you off.
