different locations for the same album?
      #948112 - 20/10/11 07:56 AM
we're midway through a ten day session during which we'd hoped to get our album finished. however, at this point it's looking like we might get about two thirds of it down. it's unlikely we'll get into the same space again, so i'm wondering how can we best use the time we have left?

do we need to try to get all the drums down to maintain a consistent sound, or will the mixing stage give our sound some consistency? or are a few different sounds ok on an album?

i realise this is very subjective, but just looking for some experienced opinions. thanks

I'd certainly try to get any acoustic instruments down if you want the songs to sound similar. However, there are plenty of albums that include music from different studios that still sound coherent so it won't be the end of the world if you don't manage to get everything down.

James.

It depends largely on genre.

If you're relying heavily upon a certain Drum sound for example or room ambience for group vocals/strings/handclaps etc you need to get them down soon. On the other hand, if you're Drums are all mega close mic'ed and triggered because you're creating modern metal it's not so essential that anything , even Guitar amps remain in the same recording space location.

There's nothing to say that an 'inconsistent' sound is a bad sound for an album.

thanks for the input. Another day down and we're doing much better, looks as if we'll get 9 tracks from 12 finished.

The band is ALL acoustic- 2 fiddles, banjo, accordion, ac guitar etc so I guess we'll need to accept a bit of variety on the remainder. This is us live; http://m.youtube.com/index?desktop_uri=%2F&gl=GB#/watch?v=7L89TsDG1Og< /a>

Think I'll hang on to the 'spice of life' mantra

Many thanks

Brian
