New to Mac - Cubase help needed new
      #950593 - 01/11/11 01:45 AM
Hi guys,

Hope someone out there will be kind enough to help me out. I have been using Cubase since the Atari ST and then on PC for many many years and still use it on a PC as my main recording setup.

At home I use a mac for my everyday tasks like email etc and as I am going away from home I thought I would install my music software on my macbook so I can finish some bits on the road.

Now as I am relatively new to mac and just use it for the basics I get a bit lost here.
I managed to install a copy of Cubase SX3 I had spare with dongle etc from a previous setup and that seems to be running fine but now I am trying to install plugins I cant seem to get Cubase to find them and I am a bit stuck.

I am trying to install my Waves Bundle, I have installed them and they are all sitting on my hard drive but I cant seem to get Cubase to find them. This was easy on my PC as I know my way around the OS but I am stuck here.

Can anyone please help out a newbie

PS

When cubase starts up and it runs through that "initializing" phase it is listing all the plugins but they are not showing in the software?

I have Cubase 5. 'Plug in information' is a dropdown on the devices menu at the top. You click on that, locate where the plug ins are on your hard drive and click update. they should then appear in the menu.

There are two places on the Mac that Cubase will look for the plug ins. If you go to Cubase SX and right click/cntrl-click and "Show package contents" this will open the sub folders inside the application. You can then find the VST folder (I'm not sure what folder/sub folder it is in, but it isn't hard to find.) You will see other bundled plug ins in there. Drag the VST plug ins into there. Alternatively you can put them in the Os X folder as detailed here.

SX3 is a Power PC application (not Universal Binary or Intel), so when you install it on your Macbook you are running Cubase in an emulation of a Power PC environment.

Your plugins are probably Universal Binary. When you install these on your Macbook they run as Intel applications.

A PowerPC compiled application will not be able to use Intel compiled plugins.
