I'm trying to get rid of some reverb from some samples containing
vocals. I have processed it through M/S to get rid of the stereo field but the reverb is
still there. Does this mean that the reverb also has seeped into mono while being added or
was the reverb not truly mono? I will try gating it too.

There tends to be a pretty strong mono component in both real and artificial reverb -
though there tends to be less L/R correlation at higher frequencies (as you've probably
discovered; did the reverb's character get darker when you converted the sample to
mono?).
Transient Designer can sometimes be helpful here, just turn the Decay
control down a bit. There are 'reverb-removal' plug-ins, but I haven't used them
myself.
