if I can't afford eastwest symphonic orchestra... new
      #951672 - 06/11/11 04:56 PM
Ok, so I'm very new to the whole synth/keyboards thing but I've been listening to the demos of the symphonic orchestra on the east west site and been pretty much blown away by the sound of it. It's a bit pricey for something that I would only be using (badly) for my own entertainment however... are there likely to be any cheaper (hardware or software) options along the same lines? I'm more interested in songwriting than tweaking presets, mixing or any other tech aspects btw. Budget wise I'm not necessarily limited, but would find it hard to justify spending more than a couple of hundred pounds on something I don't think I'd be able to use with any degree of skill...!
thanks in advance
C

Remember, you're listening to some very good programming too, you'd be surprised by the results you'd get from a modest sound module/sample set if you put the effort in. On the recommendation of another forum member I bought the Mancini book of arranging, even understanding the registers of each instrument immediately made a difference to my own string arrangements.

+2 (Though to be a bit of a pedant it's Garritan ) I'm still amazed how good this little library can actually be.

cheers folks. Garritan's looking like a good option, and thanks for the book recommendation too! I'm assuming it's Sounds and Scores : A Practical Guide to Professional Orchestration by Henry Mancini?

Soulgreed. You say you can't afford the easywest symphonic - but from what I've seen here and on the web, there are plenty of other reasons not to buy it - such as eastwest's pre-sales and after-sales service - and tech support.

I was also going to post a question about orchestras so I'm interested in Garritan's. Can anyone tell me, does Garritan PO integrate well with Logic Pro? I think you use the multi-timbral setting do you?

Marcus
