Unfortunately it’s very expensive, otherwise I might be interested too
Here are a couple more Continuum clips for you - the first is mainly for metal fans, and
is so over the top that it comes out the other side (if I mention the words Jordan Rudess
many musicians will probably know what to expect )

But here’s a more tasteful and restrained one to balance things up:

And finally here’s one composed by the designer himself (Rudolf Haken) with
full orchestral accompaniment:

Could you attain part of the playing style with a simple ribbon controller? Just the
horizontal plane, rather than the vertical one. Something like the Doepfer R2M

Yes, I’m sure you could, although I suspect that having the semitone positions marked on
the ribbon (as on the Continuum) would help your performance. I’ve been
tempted by that Doepfer ribbon myself at times Martin

It's not too expensive, but at the moment, I'm focussing on acoustics and expanding the
inputs into the computer. Maybe one day...

They aren't
just semitone markings... there is some pretty clever software at work in there that (if
the mode is selected) will always make sure your glide ends up on a chromatically accurate
tone rather than somewhere just off. It means you can gliss naturally and smoothly up or
down to a given note and always know you are going to hit it.
If you are
interested in this kind of controller, a rather cheap way to try it out is to buy the
MorphWiz app for the iPad (developed, as it happens by Mr Rudess' software company) it
pretty much acts in the same way as the continuum (albeit without the pressure sensitivity
and in a much smaller form factor - nonetheless it is still a rather cool app and capable
of really expressiveness)

The Animoog iPad app also supposedly has some things in common with the Haken
Continuum. Although i've not tried either of them myself.... I'd
sure like to have a go on a Continuum though! (Crumbs, even the stand for those
things are a fortune! )

The stands is nicely designed. Shame the Continuum is a bit of a boring black box, aside
to the playing area. I still want one though.

Thanks for the info MarkOne!
Now if only I could persuade myself to buy an Apple product after being PC-only for so
many years
The iPad is so tempting!
