help with verse / chorus dynamics

Just working on a song at the moment which apart from a fairly typical rock band set up has a programmed viola part during the verses. When the chorus comes in what should be a more anthemic part of the song is falling flat because there are no string parts in the chorus so it actually sounds thinner and weaker as a result.

The string part works very well so I don't want to lose it at all but there is a noticeable space in the song now when the chorus comes in!!

Any tips on filling out the mix more? Pads underpinning the guitar etc?

Sure, maybe you can keep the viola quietly in there as well, playing some root notes or whatever...can you post up a clip...?

It's a combination of things...

Melody and harmony
Arrangement density
Levels and width

Work those things to make the verse smaller and the chorus bigger. Create contrast.
