Can Diskwarrior Recover Data From Failing Hard Disc
      #956417 - 30/11/11 03:15 PM
Hello all,
I have a friend (honestly) whose hard disc has failed on her MacBook.
Is it possible to use my Diskwarrior CD to recover the data from this hard disc, and perhaps transfer it to another hard disc? If so, how?
Many thanks,
Tristan.

Dik Warrior focuses on repairing the registry. It may be able to get back the data, but it depends why the disk has failed. There shouldn't be any harm in trying.

You will need a second disk to back up to and something like CC Cloner to copy the failed drive.

It depends on the failure.

DW is *amazing* when it comes to fixing corruption, directory problems and so on.

But if the hard drive has failed mechanically, as Idris said above, then it can no longer be driven from software, so it's unlikely to be of help.

Connect the Macbook to your machine via Firewire, and boot the Macbook holding the "T" key to enter FW target mode. It's hard drive should mount on your machine, letting you run DW over the drive.

Or boot the Macbook from your DW disk and run it.
