Behringer PMP960M setup help
      #957182 - 05/12/11 02:46 AM
Hi,
I'm a total PA noob, but I recently bought this powered mixer for use with my band, and desperately need some help with it. I am attempting to use two Peavey PV115 400 watt 8 ohm speakers with it, and it's not working as planned.

The mixer has two speakon outputs (A+B), with which I have speakon cables plugged into going to the 1/4" inputs on each speaker. Currently I can only get sound outputted from Output A. I've swapped out the cables and speakers, just to make sure the issue is with the mixer. I've also been reading through the PMP960M manual for some answers, but can't seem to find out why no sound is coming from output B.

The Peavey speakers do work daisy-chained into output A, but I'm not sure if this is the best way to run them? it seems like that's just splitting the signal from one output, and not getting the Behringer's full power...

I really hope this is something simple that I am missing, and appreciate any help that you guys can give.

Thanks in advance.

Two thoughts:

1) Have you checked that the 'Power Amp' switch is in the right position and that one side of the amp isn't being used as a monitor send?
2) Are you sure that your Speakon Adapter Leads are wired correctly? You should be using the +1 and -1 connectors on the speakon plug.

Thanks for the response.

"1) Have you checked that the 'Power Amp' switch is in the right position and that one side of the amp isn't being used as a monitor send?"

I believe I have it in the correct position, but I've tried it either way and am still unable to get sound out of Output B.

"2) Are you sure that your Speakon Adapter Leads are wired correctly? You should be using the +1 and -1 connectors on the speakon plug."

This was something I came across in the manual that I did not understand.. I'm new to Speakon cables. How do I find this out? Should I have been looking for this when I originally purchased the Speakon cables?

Do you recall where you bought the leads - or beter still can you refer to a make/model. You need cables that are specified as "2-Pole Speakon to Mono Jack".

I'm not at the location that the cables are, so bear with me, my bandmate found "NL2FC" on the cable's packaging, which Google tells me means it's a 2-pole cable?...

Yes; that's a Neutrik two-pole. So looks like your mixer/amp may be sick. Has it ever worked OK with output from both speaker outputs?

No, I just bought it used(perfect condition) a week ago, and the second output has never worked...

In that case you probably need a conversation with the seller along the lines of 'show me it working'. If he can't then it's money-back time.

Unfortunately a lot of Behringer gear is not noted for its longevity or robustness.

Thanks for your help. I returned it to the store I bought it from yesterday. This is my second bad experience with Behringer products, I will be steering clear of them from now on.

You learned the hard way sorry. But that is why most of us do the same.
