Cheese....
      #958592 - 12/12/11 05:03 PM
Apologies to anybody that feels sick reading this, but...
Every Xmas I produce a CD of stuff I've been playing around with at home as a bit of a light-hearted thing to send out with the Xmas cards.
This year, me and the missus put together actually a not-too-bad bluesy version of "Silent Night" (this is where you might start feeling sick....bear with me, please...!).
It started out quite similar to Richard Hawley's version but, well, it's progressed. Anyway, it actually sounds like we're taking it a little too seriosuly. So I've put a honky-tonk piano solo in; and I've thrown in the obligatory sleigh bells. The trouble is, it's now sounding like a desperately nauseating Xmas offering. So I want to make it clear that it's a complete p*ss-take by going over the top on the "cheese"; so I need something else besides the sleigh bells and hony-tonk piano. Anything, the more the better.
Any tips? I've got a Roland Juno-D which has all manner of effects that can be added; I could go overboard with a Phil-Spector type reverb maybe...??
There's her and me singing together too; I sound a bit like a very poor man's version of Lenoard Cohen...if that helps...

...a slightly off-key choir of primary school kids should do the trick!

Sounds like it could use some bad "home keyboard" sounds and percussion.

Some Santa-style 'Ho-ho-ho, Merry Christmas! Ho-ho-ho!' laughter?

...well I've added a number of the ingredients as mentioned above, thanks all. I forgot about the choir, so there's plenty of...ahem...angelic "aaahhh"s in there; some church bells (crap sounding ones from the Juno-D as prescribed) and a honky-tonk rendition of "Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer" over the repeated "Sleep in Heavenly Peace" lines over the G / D7 chords at the end. It really is awful. Perfect.
