2x JBL PRX635 vs pair of JBL EON 15G2's and EON 518s subs?
      #959339 - 16/12/11 08:28 PM
Hi,

Has anyone had any experience with these?

I'm wondering which would give me a bigger FOH sound -

2x JBL EON 15G2's
+
2x JBL EON 518s subs

or

2x JBL PRX635m's

The EON 15G2's and 518S subs are quoted as having an spl of 129db each and the PRX 635's have an spl of 135db.

I would be using them to mic up full drum kit, bass, keys and 4x vocals.

Which of these would be capable of the biggest and loudest FOH sound?

personally i used to own the old EON and i didn't like them at all and i sold them out quickly , i dunno how much improvement the new EON has but i doubt they would be better than prx .... i own 2 pairs of the prx 635 and they sound great also they have that low end that makes you avoid using subs sometimes ,,,,i usually use them without subs as stage side fills for small bands about 7-8 persons and they do the work perfectly , i also own 5 pairs of the prx 615 , i use them as stage monitors and they are great too , bad thing about the prx's is that the back panel cover of the amp gets really hot even if it's sitting idle , i dunno how much this affect the overall system but i haven't notice any change in sound quality/level as the amp heats up ...., i'm sorry i can't give you feedback of the EON as i never heard them but i doubt they would be better than the prx

Thanks for the reply. I'm not really expecting my old EON 15G2's to sound better than the PRX range. I'm wondering which would be more capable of a big loud FOH sound with a beefy kick drum and bass sound?

I did a small ball with my EON 15G2's and EON 518s subs and these coped ok but am unsure if I would be confident in doing anything bigger?

There was also a pa company at the ball who brought an 8k Opus rig with an Allen & Heath iLive 112 desk and they were very surprised with the FOH sound of my little JBL rig and were very complimentary!!!

I'd love to know how a pair of the PRX635's sound next to my EON 15G2's + EON 518 subs.

did an event yesterday where i used 4 635 as main foh (2left 2right) i have flown them on the lighting truss , they were great i didn't even need to drive them to full power i was watching the limiter LED and it never blinked ...it was like 400 persons with latin/salsa dancing event on a big outdoor dance floor about 12X12 meters ...they were great

Thanks. Was this with a live band? Also, do you feel you could have done this with just one pair?

yes it was a live band , no i don't think it can be done with only two , at least for me because i don't like to drive my speakers to the max that's why i installed 4 ..also the dance floor was big 12 meters long by 12 meters wide with about 150+ people average dancing on the dance floor so i guess the number 4 was appropriate for it , also i didn't mention that i used no subs and there was no problem , the speakers had decent amount of lows ...this is the first time i use them as FOH , i used to install them as stage side fills b4
