Dave Smith's Tempest new
      #959543 - 18/12/11 05:00 PM
(Am I in the right forum? There doesn't seem to be one for Drum Machines

Yes but Dave Smith & Roger Linn's new TEMPEST analogue drum machine sound IMMENSE http://www.davesmithinstruments.com/products/tempest/
check out the half a dozen demo videos on the product page.

Asking price is $2000.

I am seriously wondering what ridiculous amount of money I'd get if I put my fully-working and MIDI-retrofitted Roland TR808 on Ebay....

Cos, whilst I don't think I'll ever sell my CR78, that Tempest p1sses all over the 808!

The 808 would probably be worth around £1200 or maybe more if it is in very good nick.

Will have a look at the Tempest later. Is this what should have been the Linn Drum 2000 or whatever it was called?

yeah, they've been getting it together for a couple of years.

It sounds awesome in the videos.

Basically, it's an "analogue drum machine", but instead of just doing weedy boring sounds from Depeche Mode's Speak & Spell, it does dubstep. Or sthg.

I'm sure I had a look at it before, but not 100% sure. I seem to recall that it reminded me of my ER1, which makes some great noises, but doesn't get much use at the moment.

To be fair, you could say the same about violins

I'm just a bit tired of 'loop music' ... setting up a loop and dropping things in and out to make a 'song'. Yawn!

Just IMCO (In My Curmudgeonly Opinion) though.

I'm looking for a TR808. I'd give you £1300 for it mate. I'm in the UK though, not sure if you're UK based.

^ It's not really an 808 clone. But it's certainly not unlike some of those classic roland boxes.
The Acidlab Miami is much more of an 808 clone (And also more money than the MFB 522) www.acidlab.de

The Tempest looks good in it's own right though
