Read and Write MacOS HFS+ on a PC (or reverse) new
      #958854 - 13/12/11 10:21 PM
Hello,

I need a program that will permit read and write access to a MacOS HFS+ formatted hard drive on a PC -OR- a program that will read and write NTFS on a Mac. Both would be really handy.

Thanks,

Peter

Not to hijack this thread, but do you know if these two softwares would allow the simultaneous sharing of the same file between Mac and PC at the same time?

So the audio file (.wav or aiff) would sit "open" on my XP PC for editing, whilst its being played on my Mac in my DAW?

no...

only one drive controller can access at any one time...

getting an NAS drive is about the only option, as it's network attached, multiple machines can access it, although it still won't be truly simultaneous.... only one machine can request a read/write operation at any given absolute instant.... however, in practice that isn't an issue.

..... however, edits would not be reflected till saved, and you may not be able to save edits while playing/open in another application. or you might, but they may still not be reflected in the other application (if it's
loaded the file in to a ram cache, it may not be playing back from the original file, so the edits won't be apparent, until the file is closed and reopened. )

i think we've had this discussion before....

Ok, I should point out, not necessarily "playing" at the same time, just sitting for editing and switching back and forth (while stopped and not running) for editing on one machine and playing on another.. I can get it almost working with knocking the mac audio 'offline" and it updating, but its a bit clunky..

So I thought proper sharing software like above, would add that extra missing link for this to work properly

it's not sharing software... they are merely means to allow one computer platform (mac or PC) to be able to function with another platform's disk drive format.
...

it's like giving a license to operate a bus , to a train driver.... or vice versa.
