DId you buy a JUNO 60 from Margate in 1985/86? new
      #962287 - 06/01/12 07:58 PM
Help - I've come over all nostalgic!

I want a Juno again and have been thinking - what are the chances of locating my original? It was my first polysynth.

Slim I should say. But a chance nonetheless.

Two chaps came to Margate to buy my Juno circa '85 / '86. I think from London - was it you? I'm prepared to buy it back! Haha!

Even if you recognise yourself but sold it / still want it / are yourself dead - please let me know!

Thanks.john

Did you keep it's serial number?

I often wonder where some of the gear I had has ended up, or where gear I have came from...

No i didnt keep the serial. I can remember a couple of small marks though - quite disctinctive!

I do keep serial numbers now though - in case of loss.
(whoops - i'm not up to date with my record keeping....)

This made my day hahah Don't think it was me though seeing as I was born in 85

On a slightly more sombre note you seen how much these fetch now days? There was a 106 on elame the other day for £700 and I think it sold... errm hello £700 for a 106 lol

I wonder who has my old Novation A-Station, it was a very early production one and it was the actual unit reviewed in cough Future Music Mag so if any one has a copy that was the serial number in the pics... I owned it twice lol sold it...then brought it back a month or two later then sold it again

The price is crazy Vinyl yes!

Back in the day, we had Junos, Sh101, TB303 and 606. But we always knew it wasnt the best - the Jupiters and JXs we lusted after.

Now a Juno is woth more than a JX. if you had told me that 25 years ago i would have said you were insane.

I am pretty bad at not selling stuff! The only things I can think of that I have sold are a Korg KPR 77 and a Roland TR 707. I certainly have a large amount of second hand gear, some which I have purchased from the original owners, others have come from random eBayers or in through an agent. I do wonder who may have used my Clavinet and TR 808 as they both came from rental companies (Music Bank for the Clav, not sure about the TR of the top of my head).

Anyway I certainly don't have your Juno, but I wouldn't say no to one!

I think you're pretty good and not selling stuff! Some bits i'll never sell, but others go to fund something else. I sure wish i could have kept some stuff.

More on my Juno nostalgia story...

Bought it new from Soho Soundhouse, i was 18. £500. Bought a case also - took it out the box, put it in the case then returned home on the train with it.

Soundhouse gave me a Roland T-shirt... 'we design the future'.

Great days.......

Yeah, I remember when Soho Soundhouse was in Soho Square... bought my Casio CZ-101 from there, my first MIDI synth. Happy days...

Ah the warm fuzzy glow of nostalgia. My first synth was a Korg 05R/W, which I still have and it still gets some use. I bought it from a shop called X Music in Bristol which didn't last long and I think it was amalgamated into Sound Control, who also went out of business.

I've also still got my original copy of Cubase VST (3.5 I think), but that is unlikely to ever get any use unless future computers get worse!

That was my second job after school.. Started working there in 88/89 just before they bought up and moved to Turnkey on charring cross road.
The Boxing day sales were quite mental.. had people queuing outside for days before

Ahhh. X Music! Yeah yer right, the staff from x music ended up at soundcontrol (it's the inadvisably named PMT now).
I think X Music was originally something to do with Richer Sounds wasn't it?

Tiny little shop but full of lovely things. I remember being obsessed with the Roland XP50 they had there... and the Alesis Quadrasynth

Yes I think it might have been something to do with Richer Sounds. I reckon I probably still have a flyer for X Music somewhere in an attic. I seem to recall it was an April edition with some sort of April Fool on it called MADI; nothing to do with the actual product of the same name. Bizarrely there is an entry here http://www.local-buzz.co.uk/business/x-music/2754498 for the shop!

this reminds me of the time I sold my old EMU SP-12 drum machine back in the mid-90's. I missed it badly and always regretted selling it so around 2003 I put a wanted ad in SOS for one. Got a call from a guy and jumped in the car to go and check it out only to discover that it was the exactly the same one I'd sold still with my samples in it years earlier! The bonus was that I bought it for half the price I sold it for.

That is a bonus!

I bought an S3000XL the other day, opened it up to find a pink post-it note under the disk drive with a list of potential samples (from Supergrass) and a 02 SIM card. The guy I bought it off said they weren't his, so must have come from a previous owner.

That's mental! Imagine opening it up and finding a bag of drugs though, that would be even funnier

I did know someone who used an old hi-fi amp for storing illicit products.

Did it have an extra cut control on its front panel?
