Possible to run vsti outside of Cubase to utilise more ram?
      #962999 - 10/01/12 11:37 AM
I have 6gb of ram and have windows 7 64bit - however my cubase is 32bit. I'm struggling to run all the virtual instruments I need as a result of the ram limitation of the cubase. Is it possible to run some virtual instruments outside Cubase (thus utilising the 6gb) and sync them up?

Hi lovesexy (I mean that in a platonic way of course)

I'm in the same situation. I use jBridge http://jstuff.wordpress.com/jbridge/ when producing stuff for quick turnaround. This works well for me though has stumbled once.

When building orchestral parts I use a second Computer and run Vienna ensemble pro http://www.viennaensemblepro.com/

Read up on both as i'm sure one will solve your problem.

Alternatively, if you have another VST host that is ReWire enabled, you can run it next to Cubase and pipe the audio through. This method should be detailed in the user manual.

Yep, a lot of people with two or more PCs do that trick Peter, and it can work well

Just to expand on what Matt said - jbridge will let you run 64bit plug-ins in Cubase 32bit and the plug-in can indeed access all 6GB of RAM while running within Cubase. http://jstuff.wordpress.com/jbridge/

And credit where it's due Joao who writes and maintains Jbridge has given me some of the best customer service I've witnessed for a while. We were bouncing updates and mails on x-mas eve and even christmas day regarding an update my mail server had lost the month before. Hat's off to him.

Unfortunately I don't think there are any hosts that will do this natively using ReWire (I know Cubase won't; it uses its crappy "VST System Link" over lightpipe). Maybe I'm wrong?
